Bill Tai has been funding startups as a VC since 1991 and has had 23 of his seed or early stage projects grow to become publicly listed companies.  His current projects include 3 of the top 10 ten companies ( Lineage Logistics, Canva and Dapper Labs) selected into the 2022 CNBC “Top Disruptive Companies” list.  He is among  Zoom Video’s 1st backers and among the first backers of ‘unicorns’ Bitfury,  Canva, Color Genomics, Class.com, Dapper Labs, HUT8 Mining and SafetyCulture.  

He has an operating background as co-founding Chairman of data science pioneer Treasure Data (acquired by SOFTBANK), founding Chairman of network operating system pioneer IPInfusion (Tokyo Stock Exchange:4813) and Founding CEO and Chair of iAsiaWorks (IPO Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley), which operated Internet Data Centers in 10 countries across Asia in the 1990's. He is the founding investor behind Dyad.net, Gigaverse, OneOf.com, MetaGood Inc.

Originally trained as a computer chip designer, he joined the CEO of Fairchild Semiconductor at the startup of LSI Logic during the ‘siliconization’ of Silicon Valley and was issued Badge #A001 during the formative year of Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE TSM) which is now among the ten most valuable companies in the world. He started the semiconductor practice at Alex Brown & Sons in the 1980's, handling the IPO’s of companies such as Atmel, Cirrus Logic, and Zilog.

He holds a BSEE with honors from University of Illinois, an MBA from Harvard where he serves on the Board of Advisors to the Dean.  He is Chairman of ACTAI Global, a 501c3 uniting Athletes, Conservationists, Technologists, Artists and Innovators to fuel technology based environmental conservation and economic development via entrepreneurship.  He is among the catalytic advisors to wwwGiga.Global , bringing broadband connectivity to schools around the world.
